The Shrewsbury BID community often feedback that large events in the Quarry Park result in quiet trading days in the town centre. Since the BID started in 2014, we have worked to encourage event-goers to visit the town with PR stunts, coupon giveaways at the entrance and ‘rest stops’. This year, we thought we’d try something different and for the first time were offered free spots in the Food Festival and Flower Show.

We organised a gazebo in the Shrewsbury pattern, a Darwin actor, Shrewsbury postcards, Shrewsbury biscuits and the Little Book of Darwin in Shrewsbury, along with decorative accessories. Volunteers, including the BID team, manned the stand during the Food Festival weekend and chatted to visitors, encouraging them to return to the town for a visit.

Following a successful first outing, the stand will also be at the Flower Show in August.
