Views of Shrewsbury which touched the hearts of keen photographers have gone on public display in the Pride Hill Shopping Centre.

They were among the best entries in the #ShrewLove Valentine’s photography competition organised by Shrewsbury Business Improvement District (BID) to help spread the love for all Shrewsbury has to offer.

Shrewsbury College photography lecturers judged the entries and chose Richard Tisdale, a BBC producer and history blogger, as the winner. His image of a man walking across the English Bridge carrying a double bass caught their eye.

Some 85 entries were submitted of favourite places and views for a chance to win the prize of a spa treatment, three course meal and cocktails for two in Shrewsbury.

A selection of the photographs now feature in the display on the bridge link in the Pride Hill Centre.

Winner of #ShrewLove, Richard Tisdale, said: “As for the location, Shrewsbury is incredible for photos – just check out all the shots on Instagram – people love it!

“Photography is a hobby to me. Sometimes I plan shots and take a long time to get them right. Other times it’s being in the right place at the right time, and often these are the best shots – just be ready to whip out your camera or iPhone!”

Seb Slater, Executive Director of Shrewsbury BID, said: “The competition caught the imagination of local people and showed different aspects of what makes Shrewsbury such a special, well-loved place. The photographs were shown online but this is an opportunity to reach another audience and make people smile.”

Kevin Lockwood, Centre Manager of Darwin and Pride Hill Shopping Centres added: “We are delighted to be able to offer space within the Pride Hill Centre to display entries from the #ShrewLove photography competition. For us, it’s very much about bringing scenes and landscapes from our beautiful town into the shopping centres for shoppers to enjoy as part of their experience with us. This installation truly shows not only our town but some of the amazing talent we have in Shrewsbury.”
