Shrewsbury BID is launching a new initiative to help businesses in the town save money on their bills and reduce their operating costs.

Specialist consultants Meercat Associates have been appointed to negotiate better deals for Shrewsbury BID members on their utilities, telecoms, waste and recycling services in a free initiative for businesses.

The savings and support scheme has started and is also aimed at improving service levels from suppliers to the businesses.

Kirsten Henly, Shrewsbury BID manager, said: “Helping our members to reduce their costs is important for businesses and the town. This new free service is all about working together, using a combined buying power and the expertise of consultants to procure services and realise savings on common supplies.

“From the evidence of similar schemes in other parts of the country it could save our members hundreds and in some cases, thousands of pounds. They will have access to a professional support service with the know-how to save them time and money in securing better deals from commodity suppliers.”

The service is funded by Shrewsbury BID so there is no additional cost to members and advice is given without obligation.

Andrew Childers, Managing Director of Meercat Associates said: “We are delighted to be working with Shrewsbury BID to help deliver cost savings to its members. We have an experienced and knowledgeable team and have been working with BIDs around the country since 2008.

“We ensure that each commodity undergoes an extensive procurement tendering process and can provide a high level of service with costs controlled.”
